Brandon Kuiper, M.D.

Gastroenterologist

Dr. Brandon Kuiper is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. Dr. Kuiper treats all manner of gastrointestinal disorders, but I have special interest in eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis), disorders of the gut brain interaction (such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Functional Dyspepsia), and fatty liver disease.

Dr. Kuiper chose to specialize in gastroenterology because he discovered his love for gastroenterology in medical school when he realized that this specialty offered the perfect combination of in-person clinic and hands-on procedures. This allows him to greatly increase the ways in which he can help his patients both by discussing their concerns but also intervening directly via endoscopy. Our gut health is critical to our overall well-being, and if he can help his patients address these concerns, he knows that they will find greater joy and meaning in life.

Dr. Kuiper believe in the words of Hippocrates, the father of medicine, when he said, “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.” He believes Medicine is more than just a career – it is a calling. He believes it is a privilege to work with his patients and discuss some of their most intimate concerns. His pledge to his patients is that he will always take time to listen and understand not just their symptoms but also how they are affecting the patient’s quality of life and will work with them to identify a personalized solution. As a former US Air Force officer, the USAF Core Values will always guide his practice and commitment to professionalism: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.

Dr. Kuiper attended the University of California, Davis School of Medicine and obtained his medical degree. He then completed his Internal Medicine Categorical Residency and Gastroenterology/Hepatology Fellowship at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX.

Prior to joining WAGI, Dr. Kuiper served 11 years as an Active-Duty US Air Force physician specializing in Internal Medicine then Gastroenterology. He was fortunate to train in the largest Internal Medicine Residency program in the Department of Defense at San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC) at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, TX. He then served as the Chief of Residents for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and as a staff Internist for 2 years at BAMC and the storied Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center (WHASC). He returned to SAUSHEC for 3 years of Gastroenterology/Hepatology Fellowship training before being stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Landstuhl, Germany for 3 years where he was the only US Air Force gastroenterologist caring for our service members and their families in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
In his free time, Dr. Kuiper is an avid reader and enjoy spending quiet time with a cup of black coffee and reading historical non-fiction and presidential biographies while listening to all genres of music including classic rock, smooth jazz, Willie Nelson, and 90s hip-hop. As parents to two young ladies, he and his wife lead a busy life of ballet classes, soccer practice, and homework projects. When they can, they love to grab their little dog, Teddy, and explore the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
